This year is another election year! Although rangatahi can't vote, it is still important that their voices are heard and how policy affects them.

Youth are leading at the forefront of navigating some of Aotearoa’s most pressing issues- climate change, the mental health crisis and so much more! This election year it is important that we continue to ensure our decision makers hear your voice on issues that matter to YOU! The decisions our government makes affects our everyday lives and the future that is being created. Here are a list of events and opportunities for you to get involved with this election year.

Youth Survey

We are gathering the voice of rangatahi across Aotearoa to have your say this election! We want to know what you want our political leaders to focus on, the issues that are important to you and the kind of government that you would be proud to stand behind.

Policy Hackathon - By Youth for Youth

Do you have a vision for change here in NZ? We are hosting a day workshop with rangatahi (13-20) where you come up with your solutions to pressing issues like climate change, the education system, mental health and inclusion & diversity. This is an exciting opportunity for likeminded young people to come together and feel empowered in the face of these huge issues. You do not have to know about policy and advocacy work, if you are passionate about these issues and want to meet new people then you are more than welcome to join us!

The Youth Debate- Auckland

In September we partnered with Make it 16, the group of young people campaigning to lower the voting age and other youth organisations to bring to you The Youth Debate

The Youth Debate is an event for young people by young people, amplifying youth voice to decision makers ahead of this year’s General Election. Political candidates heard directly from young people about issues that affect them and what they can do as leaders to make more informed decisions.  We were pleased to have Arena Williams (Labour), Matt Doocey (National), Chloe Swarbrick (Green) and Takutai Kemp (Te Paati Māori) join us on the panel.

We had our very own Generation Hope Ambassador Camille representing Save the Children NZ on the panel to share her views with our leaders about youth mental health.

Didn't get to attend the event? You can watch it here

How do the decisions our government make affect me?

Camille (17), one of our Generation Hope Ambassadors has made an educational resource for you to see how each party's proposed policy affect your life. Passionate about public transport? See what the National or the Green Party policy is on this. Care about the climate? Check out what Labour is proposing to do to cut our emissions.
